"As Miss Earth Florida 2009, I'd like to serve as a bridge between our children and our environment. We all need to reconnect with Mother Earth and grow a stronger appreciation for what it means to be Her children. The best way to reconnect is to experience first hand the wonders our world offers, and it's never too soon to start, so my efforts will focus on environmental education for children and teenagers."

WELCOME!

My name is Michelle Piwko and I am Miss Earth Florida 2009.

I am 25 years old and was born and raised in Miami. My parents were both born in Cuba and moved to Miami when they were young so I have Latin blood! It's not surprising that I love Cuban food and enjoy dancing salsa.

Growing up in Miami I enjoyed going to the beach weekly. Florida is such a wonderful place to admire and enjoy Nature, and this in part helped me grow up with an awareness of how important it is to take care of our environment and keep it beautiful for generations to come.

I love travelling and have done quite of it in the last years. Wherever I go, I prefer to visit the outdoors and experience Nature. I enjoy discovering the different landscapes, weathers and cultures. And of course, as soon as I am back, I need to compensate for all the travelling and reduce my carbon footprint, so I make sure I plant some trees either in my parents' backyard or in the park across the street from where I live.

I am a thrill seeker. I experienced new heights when I did a flying trapeze class and have a new found respect for people in the circus. I can't wait to try sky diving one day too!

Career-wise, I am an attorney. I graduated law school when I was 23 years old from Florida International University. Prior to that I received my Bachelors from Florida International University and majored in Psychology and I also have a minor in Criminal Justice.
I currently work for the Guardian Ad Litem Program representing abused and neglected children. I run a special program named the Criminal Court Project where I deal with cases that have a child that is a victim or witness of a crime. I find this work very rewarding and I love what I do!

My number one priority is to make a difference in everything I do.

I have always been environmentally conscious.

Being Miss Earth Florida has really helped me learn more effective ways to act on and protect the environment. I want to use this information and experience to show others how they can also lead a more ecofriendly life. The more research I do, the more I feel this urge that we need to act quickly and we need more people to join us.
